...and in this case also food!
Well, at least I attempted to make fish. (M tells me they look more like mice.)

T asked for a bagel with cream cheese for lunch today. Short of making the bagel into a face I haven't come up with any other fun ideas. So, today I just cut the bagel into triangles, plopped into bear baking cups and then ran with the bear theme.

T's Lunch Today:
*bagel with cream cheese
* 1 clementine
* vegetable bear gummies
* colby cheese bear with icing eyes & fruit leather nose/mouth/heart
* grapes with bear pick

Last week was, quite simply, madness. I am a co-chair for M's school Fall Festival - which was held this past Saturday - and so this past week was lots of sleepless nights, running around picking up a million things, 5 hour long meetings, conference calls and (horribly) 2 McDonald's lunches for T. So needless to say, Bento Lunches were at the bottom of the "to do" list last week. But, the big event is over (Thank God) and I'm ready to start up Bento-ing again. (M is ready too, she was none too please that she got just "a regular sandwich and some fruit" all last week.)
M's lunch today:
flower garden:
colby, swiss and provolone cheese flowers
with snap pea crisps for stems
* grape jam & soy nut butter flower sandwich
(my paining made it look more like the British flag than a flower, non?)
* grape kabobs on flower pics
* tomatoes on leaf picks
* and some vegetable gummies in the compartment next to the water bottle

In fourteen hundred ninety-two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
He had three ships and left from Spain;
He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain.
This morning M/T and I we were talking all about Christopher Columbus - were he set sail from, where he landed, and what it means to be an explorer. I thought it would fun to have today's lunch extend that talk.
The Americas (and Bahamas)
M has a quesadilla on corn tortilla
The Nina, The Pinta & The Santa Maria
apple slices with bamboo kabob skewers & paper sails
Trader Joe's vegetable gummy bears
T had a cream cheese & strawberry jam sandwich
A shared muffin tin of clementines, gluten free pretzels & grapes

T was all over the place this afternoon in his lunch requests: some "cat" pasta and then when he saw M was getting a cheese stick he wanted that too. He also asked for a sandwich, and had a whole running list of fruit. Here's what we came up with:
cat pasta sprinkled with parmesan cheese
half a cheese stick "bee" (fruit leather stripes & dyed apple antenna)
apple slices
dried strawberries
Trader Joe's vegetable gummy bears

Last week for the under the sea bentos I bought ramen noodles for the "water". The grocery didn't have the noodles for sale in a single pack, so I had to buy a six pack. And today M found them hiding in the pantry and practically begged to eat them for lunch. Since it's the weekend I thought I would be a super nice mom and allow it (and just close my eyes and ignore how much sodium is in each serving). Note to self: find a new hiding place for the ramen noodles.
Tools Used:
(Last week when I dyed the ramen noodles I added the food coloring to the water while they were boiling and they came out with a really nice even color. This time because I knew I was going to need two different colors ("grass" and "sky") I cooked the noodles, drained them, and then added in the food coloring. The color didn't turn out as even this time, but M didn't seem to mind.)
blue & green dyed ramen noodles
cheese sticked halved, sliced and dyed brown for the trunk
fruit leather leaves
apple clouds
dyed provolone cheese & fruit leather face
